Extra curricular activities

Tin Whistle
Every child who attends Gaelscoil Chluainín is given a Tin Whistle and they are taught once a week by a visiting teacher Emer Mayock.

Drama
From February onwards Prion Ó Duigneáin (director of the theatre company Glens Players/Splódar) has been teaching Drama once a week. this culminated in two summer plays performed in the Glens Theatre . we aim to continue with this this year.

Swimming
Each of the 50 kids in attendance did 10 weeks of swimming in Ballyshannon.

Yoga
Noleen Tyrell from Ardnahoo taught 4 weeks of Yoga classes in Irish to children in each class. the childen loved this and we will certainly do another 4 week stint with
Noleen.

Contemporary Dance
Dancer and dance choreographer Nic dhonchadha did a 4 week stint in the Gaelsco last year. We will be doing this again this year.

Write a Book
Each pupil this year got to write their own book, they entered this into a leitrim Based competition. they were the only children in the county to write books in Irish. they did so well that they will be doing so again this school year.

Feis Shligigh
Gaelscoil Chluainín Pupils entered competitions Drama, sining and musci competitions in last years Feis Shligigh. Many brought prizes back home to their parents. the school will be helping the pupils prepare again for this years competitions.

Festivals and Parades
Pupils and parents took part in the Samhain Parade and the St Patricks Day Parade, the school will be helping efforts in animating these parades again this year. they also had a visit from Santa after the christmas play.

Story Telling
Seosamh Mac Muiri (Lecturer in Irish and editor of Beo.ie) came and told the children stories as did Séamus Mac Annaí (Author, Novellist and writer in residence in Queens University Belfast)

Concerts, recitals, workshops
Lúnasa came to visit the school and to give a recital of traditional music, as did Dúchas a cross cultural band who sing and play Irish and scotish music. Members of kíla came to give a workshop and Des bishop droped by to speak to the kids after doing a fundraiser for the school the night before.

As part of their Musicinas in residence Dervish will be visiting the gaelscoil and we intend to have more regular recitals from musicians who will be playing concerts in the Glens Centre.

Arts Week
This was our first arts week and the children spent the week painting, making, cutting, gluing, and expressing themselves with their full creative capacity. We will be doing this again this year.

Sports Day
The parents association organized the school sports day in the Bee Park on a lovely sunny day in June. Sprints, three legged races, Egg and Spoon races a, parents races and the girls beat the boys in the tight rope competition.

Recycling
We run a recycling scheme where all materials are segregated so as that no material will end up on a rubbish dump. The material is brought to the local recycling centre, once the various bins are full up. This year the children will be invited to participate at the recycling centre.
